Walking through the streets

[Harry Potter]

Harry had gotten away from Hermione and Ron on this Hogsmeade weekend trip. They were enjoying themselves at the Three Broomsticks. He needed some fresh air anyways. He was heading in any direction that his legs carried him. He had no apparent destination. Just to get away from everyone.

Minutes later, he could see the Shrieking Shack. He had been in there a couple of years ago. The place where he met his godfather, Sirius. And now Sirius was dead. Forever gone, wherever the veil at the ministry took him. He sighed, sitting on a rock, staring at the Shrieking Shack.

After being cooped up studying in the castle most of the start of her sixth year, Emily really had no desire to stroll around and visit the any shops and pubs that Hogsmeade had to offer. She strolled off to the place she thought would be the quietest, the Shrieking Shack. To her this abandoned building didn't live up to its "the most haunted building in Britain" reputation, but she had only seen it from the outside as well.

As she walked towards the shack she noticed a figure sitting in the distance and thought to herself who would come out her during a Hogsmeade trip, thinking to herself except me, of course.

Harry sat there, drowned in his own thoughts. He heard footsteps and automatically became alert. He had his hand ready to pull out his wand. Looking up, he saw that it was another student. He had seen her before. Another prefect, he thought. His year, but in Ravenclaw. Slowly relaxing, he forced a smile. "Hello," he called out, giving a wave.

Emily gave a slight smile as the figure turned and waved at her. She was quite surprised at who she saw sitting alone looking at the shack. A fellow sixth year and obviously the most well known student at the school, Harry Potter. She wasn't as surprised to see him out here, he had a tough life so a little fresh air wasn't anything out of the ordinary, but she was rather surprised to see him without either of his best friends.

She continued down towards the sitting Harry giving an awkward wave in return, while she gave a quick glance around to see that there truly wasn't anyone around. As she got close enough to converse without raising her voice, she grinned and asked "So what brings you all the way out here?" and then gave a glance towards the shack "I'm sure it can't be the magnificent view of the glamorous Shrieking Shack?"

Alan was a loner again as he walked past the three broomsticks. No one wanted to hang around him ever since his father had been demasked as a Death Eater. Like a overwhelming smell people veered away from his path whenever he strode the halls, or whispered tales about how my father use to torture muggles. Why should the son be punished for the sins of the father?

Alan walked down the road that headed toward the shrieking shack. He looked up as he heard voices and a overwhelming anger grew over him when he saw Harry Potter. He was tempted to walk over there and use the killing curse against him but stopped when he noticed the girl standing next to him. He strode over and with a rather fake smile said, "Hello Potter."

Harry smiled. But before he could answer, another voice interrupted the silence. "Hello Rider," he said calmly, keeping the urge of attacking him. He knew who his father was and was pretty sure he was just like that. He didn't smile at him, but kept his hand ready to retrieve his wand at a moment's notice.

[Alan Rider]

Alan toyed with his wand that layed deep in his pocket, he still played with the thought of whipping it out and killing him where he stood but fought against it, "Still fighting the dark lord? At some point you are going to lose" Alan said with a malicious smile. He looked at the girl standing next to Potter and remembered her from the forbidden forest, he had little chance of shooting both of them before the other would hit him back.

Emily stood grinning and she waited for his reply. When instead there came a greeting from behind she turned reaching into her robe pockets to slip her hand around her wand, what has become instinct when she is caught surprised. As she looked she saw that the voice belonged to a student, Alan Rider. She kept her hand stuffed in her pocket as she could almost see the obvious tension flowing between the two. She thought that in the brief moment that she met Alan he didn't seem like the kind of person who would make typical Slytherin comments like the ones he was directing to Potter. She stood somewhat unsure on what to do or say, so for a moment she looked back and forth listening to the snide remarks and when Alan smiled after his comment she gripped her wand sensing that the situation was escalating.

She slightly scowled as she asked "Perhaps we can keep this civil, huh?"

"Thanks to you Potter everyone thinks that I'll follow in my father's Death Eater footsteps." Alan pulled out his wand and sparks were already shooting out of the tip. He had the sudden urge to just send him flying back. "I am not my father." Alan's hand clenched around the wand tightly as his knuckles turned white from how hard he hold on to it. In the corner of his eye he saw the girl pull out her wand as well he knew that if he were to strike Potter he would have to quickly attack her.

Emily tensed as Alan drew his wand, and she didn't see this situation ending with a reasonable resolution. "You may or may not be what everyone thinks you are, however pulling your wand on fellow students might not be the wisest way to prove that," she commented in a slight sarcastic tone, keeping a firm grip on the wand inside her robes.

Alan was about to silence her, when a teacher came by and looked upon the situation, "What are you three doing?!?" Alan looked back at the teacher, "Oh nothing just talking." "Well thats enough of that, we are leaving." The teacher strode off with the other students as they began to head back to Hogwarts. Alan looked back at Potter, "We'll finish this later." he stuck his wand back in his pocket and strode off after the teacher.

Emily held on to her wand even as Alan walked away after someone had come to inform them they were going back to the castle. She simply stood there staring at the back of his head as he strolled off. She let out a subtle sigh deciding to stay around for just a bit to let Alan get ahead of her to avoid any further confrontation for the moment and sarcastically added "Well that was a pleasant little chat." The comment was half her thinking aloud and half directed towards Harry.

Alan cursed at himself at the way he had acted back there in front of Emily "Smooth move genius," he said as he walked with the students. His burning hatred for Harry overwhelmed his crush for Emily. He was sure to make next time a even better experience for her. His feet trudged through the snow, until he saw what he had been looking for. A hand outstretched and beckoned him to come towards it. Alan broke from the path and made his way through the alleyway.

Harry had his wand pulled out, but didn't fire it. A teacher came in between them though telling them to leave. Watching the Slytherin walk away, he turned back to Emily. "I'm sorry you had to be in the middle of that." He hated bringing people into his problems. He got up to leave. "Coming along?" He looked at her to see if she would follow.

Emily stopped scowling off into the distance, and turned her head toward Harry as we started off, just registering his words at that moment. She quickly released the grip on her wand and withdrew her hand from her robes. She grinned as he looked back softly replying "I don't blame you for that situation, so you don't need to be sorry," as she finished she began to follow adding "Oh, yea I'm coming," as she did.
